Rwandans 4 WaterIn September of 2008, ten Rwandan Presidential Scholars from Oklahoma Christian University came together with an idea to serve their country with their emerging technical skills. ” We will be returning to Rwanda for an internship this summer, and believe we can further our education and serve our communities as a united force,” we thought. After collecting ideas of how to further our education needs but also serve the needs of Rwandans, we went through a process of selecting an appropriate project based on the vision of Rwanda for 2020, as well as having a great impact in a brief period of time. We agreed on helping solve the problem of acquiring clean water in rural communities of Rwanda. The lack of accessible clean water is a devastating problem in both rural and urban areas in Rwanda. We hoped that, by drilling water wells in selected parts of Rwanda using simple, affordable and amenable technology, access to clean water will increase. With vision in hand, we began planning, and raising funds for an initial investment of two-thousand dollars.
We introduced our vision of drilling affordable water wells to other students at Oklahoma Christian University and the idea was greatly embraced. Allowing others to serve in this project was a pivotal component, and as a result students from universities with similar programs to the Rwandan Scholars Program (Harding University, California Baptist University, William Penn University, Hendrix College, University of Arkansas), were given the vision and asked how they could join forces to address the water crisis in Rwanda. Citizens around the globe are being informed of the water crisis in Rwanda and are being asked to serve with possible ideas, talents, and funds.
We are a faith-based organization of young entrepreneurs. We are Rwandans changing Rwanda for generations to come. We are Rwandans helping ourselves and inspiring others. We are Rwandans improving the quality of life for Rwandans, by providing clean water.
MISSION
Rwandans4Water unites, trains, and provides. Our mission is to unite as many individuals and organizations from around the world to pool resources to overcome the water crisis in Rwanda; to train individuals and groups to use the newest technology to access water; finally, to provide clean water to all people of Rwanda.
KEYS TO OUR SUCCESS
Rwandans4Water recognizes our vision is grand. Our talents, vision and education will not be enough to succeed on such a comprehensive scale. Rwandans4Water recognizes the importance and need for partners to possess the same passion, discipline, and vision as us. Rwandans4Water recognize in order to bring success to the water crisis in Rwanda we must possess these following traits:
Prayer: Rwandans4Water members respond to one true God, who sacrificed his Son for our salvation. Constant guidance and conversation with our Father is the first and the paramount key to success. We recognize Him working through us, not just us working.
Dream: Rwandans4Water members have a passionate love for their motherland. They are encouraged to keep this love alive by being able to sacrifice their time, money and energy for the good of their families, communities and country.
Team Work: Rwandans4Water members believe three strands are not easily broken. A diversity of ideas, talents, and abilities strengthens the project.
Training: Rwandans4Water members accept we do not have all the skills necessary and must develop our education and talents over time. Continuing to learn about the latest technologies on drilling water wells and their maintenance is crucial. Rwandans4Water will always offer sessions to train locals to continue the project long after the project team has come and gone.
Fund-raising Strategies: Rwandans4Water has different fund-raising strategies through individuals and organizations. We solicit funds among students, families, organizations, and government agencies. Rwandans4Water will utilize fund-raising events, Internet donations, grants and contributions to accomplish its goal.
Partnership: Rwandans4Water members believe there is power through partnership. Rwandans4Water works with individuals or organizations that share the same dream. Efforts are being made to procure more partners who can assist with trainings, equipments, or funds.
Government Synergy: Rwandans4Water will work with the government of Rwanda and follow steps taken towards Rwanda Vision 2020. The water crisis is a problem forecasted to end in Rwanda in the year 2020, and Rwandans4Water wishes to be part of the solution.
